How should a hydraulic oil sample be taken for laboratory analysis so the result reflects the system's true condition?
- From the bottom drain plug as the first oil out.
- From a live port, warm oil, mid-stream, clean bottle.
- From the top of the reservoir with any clean rag handy.
- Cold, before start-up, so particles have settled.

B. Correct. Sampling from the designated live port at operating temperature, after flushing the port and catching mid-stream into a laboratory-clean bottle, captures circulating oil as the components see it. Drawing from the tank bottom or a drain scoops settled debris and skews the result.

What two jobs does the starter solenoid perform when the key is turned to start?
- It spins the armature and charges the batteries.
- It boosts battery voltage and times the injection.
- It shifts the pinion into mesh and closes the main motor contacts.
- It locks the flywheel and releases the parking brake.

C. Correct. The solenoid's plunger does double duty: through the shift lever it pushes the drive pinion into the ring gear, and at the end of its stroke it bridges the heavy contacts that connect battery current to the motor — engagement first, then power.
